My name is Joy Abimbowo, and my journey in childcare began over 20 years ago. I was born on April 18th in the 1970s and began my professional career in Nigeria after graduating from a higher institution in West Africa with a background in Insurance and Banking.
Although my initial role was as an accountant at a large school in Nigeria, I quickly discovered my passion for working with children. From 2003 to 2014, I worked in this school, where I also helped open a daycare center within the main school. During this time, I gained experience working with infants, toddlers, school-age children, middle school, and secondary school students.
In 2014, I relocated to the United States and settled in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I worked various jobs, including four years at PNC Bank as a consultant handling inbound and outbound calls, while also pursuing my education. I attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College, completed my nursing prerequisites in 2018, and was accepted into the nursing program at Kellogg Community College.
While nursing school was rewarding, balancing a full-time job, schooling, and raising my three children became overwhelming. After an unsuccessful year—and the heartbreaking loss of my father during the same time—I made the difficult but life-changing decision to follow my heart back to childcare.
In September 2019, I opened Margaret Home Daycare in my home. My love for children and joy in seeing them learn and grow fueled my work every day. As the daycare grew, so did the demand, leading to a waiting list across multiple age groups.
This growth inspired the next step—opening a childcare center. After a thorough licensing process, I was proud to receive approval in January 2025, officially opening Margaret Daycare Center LLC, doing business as Seeds of Joy Child Care Learning Center.
As a mother of three grown children, nurturing young minds has always been close to my heart. I love traveling and exploring new places, and I’m excited for this new chapter—welcoming families and creating a space where children feel safe, loved, and inspired to learn.
